Job Summary
The position reports to the Malaysia Tax Lead and assists in the management of the Tax function of the ConocoPhillips Malaysia Business Unit.
This includes all advisory, planning, compliance and related accounting for all applicable Malaysian taxes (Petroleum Income Tax, Corporate Income Tax, e-invoicing, transfer pricing, Employer’s Tax, Personal Income Tax, Withholding Tax, Sabah & Sarawak State Sales Tax, and Sales & Service Tax), as well as U.S. GAAP and Malaysian financial tax accounting and reporting.
Job Description
Primary Functions/Responsibilities:
- Practical, applied and highly reliable knowledge of Tax methods and processes gained by on-the-job experience or professional qualifications.
- Demonstrates financial, economic and business acumen
- Accurate and timely compliance for all taxes applicable to the ConocoPhillips Malaysia business unit
- Monitor significant proposed and/or pending Malaysia tax legislation and communicate potential financial impact on earnings to leadership locally and in the U.S.
- Coordinate with headquarters on tax planning efforts for existing assets and/or potential new business opportunities to ensure the most tax efficient structure from a global tax planning perspective.
- Creates and maintains network internally between finance department and other functions in the organization, and externally with various government agencies, industry players and other stakeholders.
- Calculate tax numbers in all forecast, planning and economic models. This includes review of assumptions and detailed calculations.
- Performs income tax accounting and reporting for Petroleum & Corporate Income Tax, including but not limited to:
- Work with external tax agent and COP US transfer pricing team to ensure preparation of contemporaneous Malaysian transfer pricing documentation and compliance with global transfer pricing requirements
- Other ad hoc advisory, planning & implementation projects
Requirements:
- Finance or Accounting degree
- Professional qualifications in tax and/or accounting
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a Tax role
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax, reporting and audit requirements, in particular:
- Financial accounting and reporting knowledge, especially tax accounting concepts:
- Strong analytical and technical skills
- Experience in the upstream Exploration & Production industry, and multinational companies, is preferred
Personal Skills:
- Self directed, flexible and collaborative
- Planning and organizing (nature of BU and workload will demand multi projects at one time)
- Great at building and maintaining relationships within ConocoPhillips, and with business partners and government authorities
Key Interfaces:
- ConocoPhillips Malaysia business unit leadership team
- ConocoPhillips Finance and Tax teams in Malaysia and in Corporate
- Business partners – JV Partners and PETRONAS
- Government authorities – Ministry of Finance, IRB, Customs
