Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Tax Lead, based in Aberdeen.

Responsibilities:
* Review of monthly UK VAT returns prepared by UK VAT Accountant and assist the UK VAT accountant with VAT technical points.
* Ensuring ledger reflects the correct reconciled indirect tax balances, reviewing account reconciliations in that regard.
* Commercial and procurement contract reviews to ensure indirect tax risks minimised.
* Ad-hoc advice on the correct application of indirect taxes to a wide range of business situations and projects often in short notice situations.
* Ensuring robust systems and processes to manage the UK VAT position and that effective controls are in place over risks.
* Maintenance of the UK VAT group.
* Understanding the VAT architecture within the EMS system, working closely with the different business units to ensure that a) the system correctly captures the required VAT treatment as far as possible b) the system is as automated as far as possible. C) the system is properly configured.
* Provide tax technical advice to the different business units (e.g. Finance/ Treasury / Trading/ Supply chain/ Operations and commercial) that process the various VAT positions within the business and guide the business in it’s dealings on VAT with 3rd party suppliers and 3rd party customers and where necessary deal with them directly.
* Take ownership to ensure that the VAT requirements are embedded in the business processes that sit outside of the Tax department business processes, including working closely with the various business units to ensure that they are implementing the VAT treatment in a correct manner.
* VAT advisory – where the business looks to undertake any structural changes to the way that it conducts it’s business, take ownership for the VAT position in each initiative, to ultimately ensure that the VAT requirements are understood and met in the deliverable.
* Deliver training and guidance to the various business users in an understandable manner order to ensure that the VAT requirements are adhered to by the business.
* Owner of the VAT team business processes within BMS.

Experience & Qualifications:
* Educated to university standard.
* Professional qualification in taxation preferably indirect taxes
* Specialist experience in dealing with indirect taxes in the UK and internationally.
* Proven experience in the tax arena either from a Big 4 accountancy firm or another Operator at indirect tax manager level.
* Strong analytical and IT skills.
* Strong systems experience preferable with SAP4 Hana
* Ability to step outside known skills and learn about new tax developments as required.
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with excellent interpersonal, team working and presentation skills.
* Results focused with a commitment to the delivery of excellent service to the business.
* Willing to challenge existing practices and implement initiatives.
* Willingness to travel to other company locations as needed.
