Permian Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. The transformational acquisitions of Concho Resources Inc. and Shell Enterprises LLC’s prolific positions in the Delaware and Midland Basins in 2021 further strengthened the company’s position in the Permian Basin. At year-end 2023, the company held approximately 1 million total net acres in the Permian Basin.

During 2023, net production averaged 719 MBOED.

Description

The Permian Water Production Engineer will report to the Permian Water Project Integration Manager and be directly responsible for coordinating with the operating assets to track and forecast water production, disposal and reuse. Work with our assets, external stakeholders and internal group technology function to develop beneficial reuse of produced water. This role will work directly with the water management team to develop ConocoPhillips long term strategy for managing water in the Permian Basin.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Interact within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver Permian asset water production, collaborating closely with Operations, Well Intervention & Integrity, Base Facilities, and Reservoir groups
  • Coordinate and lead technology applications for water reuse and management opportunities
  • Engage and collaborate with the Commercial Gas and Water team and Asset Teams on contract negotiations, strategic relationship management, and future business opportunities
  • Conduct optimization meetings with field & operations center staff to identify and mitigate and identify optimization opportunities
  • Support digital transformation of water management tracking and optimization efforts.
  • Participate in industry and basin-wide knowledge sharing forums
  • Prepare and coordinate economic evaluations for operating capital and expense production projects
  • Pursue operating optimization projects with utilization of data analytics tools.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party SWD companies on proposals and ensure strategic alignment within Asset Teams to protect future drill locations while providing injection capacity for disposal vendors
  • Evaluate and apply advancements in available technologies and services to improve performance

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, other related Engineering field, or foreign equivalent
  • 5+ years of direct experience with wells engineering, production engineering, production optimization, reservoir engineering or facility engineering
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry
  • 5+ years of direct production engineering and/or well intervention experience
  • 5+ years of direct experience with water management
  • Experience in field operations including workover and well interventions.
  • Past experience with direct technical mentorship and experience in developing and implementing engineering standard processes
  • Unconventional play exposure
  • Competency in SNAP, OFM, OVS, Rodstar, XSPOC, IPM, Wellview, CYGNET, Spotfire and MS Office Suite
  • Strong commitment to safety and promoting safe work practices
  • Ability to work well within multi-discipline teams both in the office and field environments
  • Knowledge of economic evaluation, project management and risk analysis.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with field operations personnel
  • Able to communicate information across multiple disciplines and receive consensus on aligning asset goals
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
