Description:
ConocoPhillips Canada is recruiting a Well Abandonment Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Well Integrity and Abandonment Supervisor, this position will focus primarily on the prioritization, design, and implementation of well abandonments (including surface casing vent flow and gas migration repair). The position is Calgary office-based with some associated travel to field operations. The successful candidate must have experience as an Intervention/Abandonment Engineer and basic knowledge of other disciplines including drilling, production, reservoir, and geology.
Responsibilities:
- Supports and complies with the policies, goals, efforts, and programs of CPC’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System. Ensure HSE issues are given primary consideration in all activities undertaken within area of responsibility. Unsafe acts and/or conditions, no matter in what area of responsibility, are to be reported so corrective actions can be taken.
- Work within a team for prioritizing well abandonments and long-range planning to ensure well abandonments meet regulatory and Company requirements.
- Perform detailed well reviews, diagnostics and interpretation of past operations and information to establish abandonment strategies of wells.
- Prepare detailed well abandonment cost estimates, procedures, regulatory and vendor correspondence relating to well abandonment activities.
- Work within teams in preparing campaigns which include activities related to well abandonments interventions and diagnostics.
- Providing daily technical support to field personnel to ensure the safe and efficient execution of planned work activities.
- Mentoring and coaching of junior team members and continuous improvement of process and procedures.
- Remain current on regulations and applicable technologies relating to well abandonments.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives and technology development within ConocoPhillips and industry.
Required Qualifications:
- Registered member of good standing as a Certified Engineering Technologist or Professional Engineer.
- 5+ years of wells experience involving completion, interventions, and abandonments. At least 2 years working directly in well abandonments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Proficient with use of computer programs including Accumap, MS Office, and Wellview.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with interpretation of well logs and well construction.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clear and appropriately detailed information to others in a timely manner.
- Aptitude to support and facilitate collaboration across multidisciplinary
teams, business, and cultures. - Strong team player, self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and balance several projects at one time.
- Strong commitment to continuous improvement, safety & environmental stewardship, and business ethics
