Midland Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips holds approximately 372,000 total net acres in the Midland Basin, which includes approximately 248,000 unconventional net acres located in the heart of west Texas. The company operates over 2,800 producing wells across Midland, Upton, Andrews, Martin and Glasscock counties.

In 2023, the company operated five drilling rigs on average, including two electric rigs. Net production in 2023 averaged 182 MBOED and 106 operated wells were brought online.

Description

If you are selected as the Wellbore Transaction Lead, you will have a core position within the L48 Business Development Team that executes important portfolio optimization activities such as trades, wellbore sales, joint ventures, etc. You will market, negotiate, and coordinate wellbore carry/divestiture transactions. You will work with reservoir engineers, geologist, land negotiators, commercial, and legal to execute the wellbore transactions. You must be able to multitask and work multiple deals simultaneously. You must have strong communications skills to manage the wellbore process internally and externally.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Marketing, negotiating, and transacting non-operated wellbore divestitures under constrained timelines
  • Working with cross-functional teams of reservoir engineers, geologists, land negotiators and commercial marketing teams to evaluate transaction types
  • Writing, negotiating, and drafting wellbore agreements, assignments, and other similar agreements to transact wellbore-only interests that ensure accuracy as well as compliance with corporate guidelines, legal requirements, ethics and industry standards
  • Working with legal counsel to implement oil and gas transactions and performing necessary transaction due diligence
  • Represent ConocoPhillips in dealing with working interest partners, potential buyers, private mineral owners, and local, state and Federal Government entities
  • Handle wellbore buyer pool information requests, pre-close requirements, and post-close clean-up tasks
  • Screen prospective buyers interested in access to wellbore opportunities
  • Handle wellbore transaction data for regular performance evaluations and lookbacks

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelors degree or higher in business, engineering, science, related field or foreign equivalent
  • 3 or more years of experience in the oil and gas industry

Preferred:

  • 1 or more years of experience in project planning, project and acquisition economics, commercial evaluation and alternative business structures
  • 1 or more years of experience with various types of software packages used for Land functions (e.g., Quorum, ArcGIS, Enverus, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills to simultaneously manage multiple transactions
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proactive communication with various OBO, finance, commercial, and legal groups to maintain efficient workflows
  • Strong written/oral communication skills essential with the ability to exhibit flexibility and innovation, spontaneously think/respond quickly and be persistent
  • Strong social skills required with the ability to establish/maintain relationships with internal and external partners
  • Ability to express sound solutions and ideas to management with minimal preparation and readily anticipates problems and questions
  • Responds inventively, flexibly and positively when faced with challenges and demands
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
