Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.2 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2022. The company produced an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest legacy conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

Willow Overview

Located on Alaska’s North Slope in the National Petroleum Reserve (NPR-A), the Willow project is estimated to produce 180,000 barrels of oil per day at its peak. During construction, Willow is expected to create around 2,500 jobs, with a majority of labor provided by union workers. The development is estimated to create 300 permanent jobs.

The economic impact of the Willow project will be sizable. According to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) estimates, Willow could generate between $8 billion and $17 billion in new revenue for the federal government, the state of Alaska, the North Slope Borough, and local communities. The initial phase of Willow development will include a new Willow Central Processing Facility (WCF), three drill sites, pipelines, roads, bridges and supporting infrastructure.

Description

If you are selected as the Willow GGRE (Geology, Geophysics, and Reservoir Engineering) Analyst, you will support the Willow Development organization reporting to the Willow Development Manager. You will take a leadership role establishing data governance and management across the future Greater Willow Area. You will also work cooperatively with AK Digital Technology Data Management to construct the future data structure for static and dynamic subsurface data. This role requires practical subsurface data management experience, strong collaboration, active engagement and excellent written and verbal communications skills.

The Willow GGRE analyst will work within a multi-discipline team responsible for delivering the static and dynamic characterization of the Greater Willow Area reservoirs and overburden, developing production forecasts and reservoir management plans, as well as supporting well planning activities.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Ownership and maintenance of the Willow Development collaboration sites
  • Supporting the transition, future structure and QC of ATDB replacement
  • Helping to design, test and configure data management withing new digital workflows
  • Working with technical teams in AK and GTF to test workflows across petro-technical suite
  • Supporting a growing team towards pre-development activities in 2026+
  • Data governance with outside agencies
  • Maintain subsurface databases including Studio (Petrel and Techlog) and iPoint

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geoscience, Engineering or related field or foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of industry experience as a geotechnician or geoscience analyst
  • Advanced level of proficiency in geoscience software, including one or more of the following: Petrel, Studio, TechLog, iPoint, ArcGIS, Spotfire and Microsoft Office products
  • Intermediate knowledge of geoscience data, particularly handling of log data and tops

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of industry experience as a geotechnician or geoscience analyst
  • Advanced knowledge of geoscience and reservoir data
  • Advanced level of proficiency in several geoscience software (including Petrel, Studio, TechLog, iPoint, Spotfire, ArcGIS), and Microsoft Office
  • Advanced organizational skills—ability to prioritize activities and requests from contributors and stakeholders
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
  • Takes initiative with high level of enthusiasm and creativity
  • Listens actively and invites new ideas for shared understanding, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results
  • Utilizes skills to develop new workflows and best practices to solve problems effectively
  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
