Port Harcourt — In a significant move to boost Nigeria’s oil production output, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, has announced plans for increased exploration activities in Kogi State.
Lokpobiri said in line wit the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, the Ministry, in conjunction with the NNPC Limited, and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, were identifying regions with high mineral exploration potential.
The Minister announced this while receiving the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who visited him to foster productive collaboration between the State and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
Lokpobiri explained to the Governor that Kogi will experience heightened seismic activities to uncover new oil fields, thereby increasing production and revenue.
He expressed the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with state governments, especially as investments from International Oil Companies, IOCs continue to rise under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformative leadership in the oil sector.
He said: “As Kogi State has joined the league of oil-producing States, I assured the Governor that the State will witness increased seismic activities as we work towards discovering more oil fields, thereby boosting output and enhancing revenue share.
“The Ministry is fully committed to partnering with any State Government in these efforts, especially as we continue to record significant investment commitments from International Oil Companies, IOCs and the Independent Petroleum Producers Group, IPPG.
“Thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership in transforming our oil sector, we are seeing a surge in interest from both local and international investors.”
