Under the terms of the agreement, the NGML-NIPCO Unincorporated Joint Venture will supply 80 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas to the Ssonic Petroleum LNG plant over the next 20 years.

A statement by NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi O. Soneye, described the deal as a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s gas sector and accelerate industrial growth.

“This agreement aligns with our vision to deepen domestic gas utilization, enhance energy security, and position natural gas as the fuel of choice for Nigeria’s economic transformation,” the statement stated.

According to NNPC Ltd, the partnership is also expected to advance Nigeria’s energy transition agenda by promoting the use of gas as a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative fuel.

“Gas remains a crucial component in reducing carbon emissions and achieving global climate goals.

The deal is part of NNPC Ltd’s broader commitment to boosting local gas infrastructure, attracting investments, and ensuring that Nigeria harnesses its vast gas resources to drive sustainable economic development,” Soneye added.
